Ahmad Allah Mutaqi, the Taliban’s Director of Information and Culture in Herat, has announced that the mass deportation of Afghan refugees from Iran has intensified following the conflict between the Islamic Republic and Israel.
According to him, before the hostilities, approximately three thousand Afghan migrants were being forcibly deported through the Islam Qala border daily, but after the end of the war, this number has increased to around 9,000 forced deportations.
During a ceremony, Mutaqi stated that in addition to forced deportations, about four thousand others are voluntarily returning to Afghanistan through this border.
He predicted that in the coming days, the total number could rise to between 15,000 and 20,000 people daily.
Meanwhile, Alireza Bikdeli, Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, declared on Monday that the Islamic Republic would not impose “pressure, cruel or illegal actions” against Afghan migrants in Iran. He emphasized that the plan to organize migrants without residence documents began a year ago in consultation with Taliban officials and continues to be implemented.
