The Afghanistan Freedom Front issued a statement on July 2, 2025, accusing the Taliban group of suppressing Shiite mourning ceremonies during the first ten days of Muharram.
According to the statement, reliable sources from Herat province and Kabul report attacks, harassment, and increasing restrictions on Shiite religious gatherings, during which numerous citizens have been beaten, insulted, and arbitrarily detained.
The statement emphasizes that Ashura mourning ceremonies are an inseparable part of the religious and cultural identity of the people of Afghanistan and have been respected throughout all historical periods.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front also accuses the Taliban of removing Jafari jurisprudence from the judicial and educational system, pressuring Ismaili Shiites to change their sect, and forcing displacement and land seizure in various regions.
The Front describes these actions as clear violations of human rights and evidence of a structural discrimination project aimed at the systematic elimination of a group of Afghan citizens.
They warn that if there is no resistance against these oppressive policies, tomorrow will be too late. The statement concludes with the Afghanistan Freedom Front strongly condemning these actions while emphasizing their support for the right of followers of different faiths to practice their religious rituals.
