The Ministry of Public Works of the Taliban has announced that with the commencement of a new phase of reconstruction on the Salang Highway, this route will be closed to all cargo vehicles starting July 22.

According to the statement released on Wednesday, July 16, small cargo vehicles will be able to use the alternative southern Salang route.
The ministry also stated that the Shakari Valley road on the Doshi-Bamyan route is currently being repaired with private sector cooperation and will serve as an alternative route once completed.

These recent measures are part of the Taliban group’s efforts to improve the country’s vital infrastructure.

According to the announcement, passenger vehicles including 303, 404, and 580 models will still be able to travel normally on the secondary route 24 hours a day.

This decision comes as the Salang Highway remains one of the most important connection routes between northern Afghanistan and Kabul.
