Foreign Policy magazine reports that the United States is examining ways to return to Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan.

This objective could be achieved through direct negotiations with the Taliban, cooperation with third countries like Qatar, UAE, Uzbekistan, or transferring base management to a military-civilian consortium.

President Donald Trump announced that his administration is working to regain control of Bagram Airbase from the Taliban.

The need to return to Bagram stems from urgent security requirements, as ISIS-Khorasan’s activities have rapidly expanded since America’s 2021 withdrawal.

Although the Taliban rejected America’s request to deploy US forces at Bagram, analysts believe that internal Taliban divisions and frustration with Afghanistan’s sanctions-hit economy have increased willingness to engage with America.

The base represents both symbolic and practical value for restoring US influence in South and Central Asia.
