Coca-Cola has agreed to use real cane sugar in its drinks sold in the United States, as announced by President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform.

Trump wrote: “I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so.

I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!” .

Currently, Coca-Cola uses high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in its American products, which has been flagged by Trump’s Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. due to health concerns.

Consumption of HFCS in excess has been linked to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

It’s also associated with metabolic syndrome, which is a cluster of risk factors that together significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes .

Clinical trials have shown that consuming drinks containing corn syrup can lead to “an increase in body weight, blood pressure, and inflammatory markers” as well as “increase in triglyceride levels, a stimulation of de novo lipogenesis, and an increase in visceral fat.

” Another study noted that “consuming two 16-ounce sugar-containing beverages per day for 6 months can mimic many of the features of the metabolic syndrome and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

” Coca-Cola has confirmed that the new cane sugar version will be launched this fall, adding to its U.S. lineup rather than replacing the corn syrup version entirely .
