Stephanie Loose, head of the UN-Habitat office in Afghanistan, called on the international community on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, not to forget the people of Afghanistan, especially women and girls.
Referring to the difficult situation of Afghan refugees, she stated that Afghanistan is facing a refugee return crisis.
According to the UN-Habitat report, more than one million Afghan refugees have been deported from neighboring countries with empty hands.
Stephanie Loose emphasized that these refugees have lost their homes, possessions, and even hope, and are now trapped in a cycle of dependency and homelessness.
The UN official added: “At the United Nations meeting in Geneva, we asked the international community to increase its support so that Afghan returnees can rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and futures.
” Various UN agencies have reported that more than one million migrants have been deported from Iran and Pakistan to Afghanistan this year.
