Amnesty International has declared that the Taliban’s judicial system is based on “fear,” not justice .
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 28th, the organization noted that former judges, lawyers, and human rights defenders have provided examples of repression and injustice .
Amnesty International has called on countries to pressure the Taliban to end four years of “injustice” .
The organization added that since the Taliban came to power in 2021, Afghanistan has faced severe restrictions on freedom of expression, assembly, women’s political participation, torture, arbitrary detentions, and corporal punishment .
The Taliban group has not yet commented on this statement .
These criticisms come as the Taliban has increased corporal punishments and public executions in recent weeks, while victims have no access to justice.
