Religious scholar Mehran Movahhed has described the defense of the Persian language as a “Jihad” against systematic erasure.

He argues that Persian literature reflects the most humane and artistic interpretations of Islamic teachings.

Movahhed criticized recent moves by the Taliban to remove Persian from university signs and public offices.

He emphasized that the language has had a deep, unbreakable bond with Islamic history for over fourteen centuries.

Human rights groups have also petitioned the UN to investigate the Taliban’s anti-Persian policies.

They warn that removing Persian from administrative systems violates the fundamental linguistic rights of millions of Afghan citizens.
