Renowned author Amish Tripathi launched his latest book “The Chola Tigers: Avengers of Somnath” and strongly criticized Bollywood’s misrepresentation of historical figures like Alauddin Khilji, Akbar, and Aurangzeb He argued that filmmakers incorrectly portray these Muslim rulers as looking like popular Bollywood stars.
Tripathi emphasized that these rulers were from Central Asian steppes and would have appeared Chinese-like to modern Indians, not like Ranveer Singh or Hrithik Roshan He pointed out that when major Indian stars play foreign invaders, it creates confusion about their true origins and makes them appear homegrown rather than foreign.
The author also noted that these historical figures didn’t speak Urdu as shown in films, and this misrepresentation distorts historical understanding He called for more accurate historical portrayals in Indian cinema to prevent confusion about the country’s past.
