Zalmay Khalilzad, former US special representative for Afghanistan peace affairs, strongly criticized the shortage of female doctors and aid workers in Afghanistan’s earthquake-affected areas through a message on social media platform X.
He emphasized that this shortage has directly impacted the care provided to female victims of the disaster.
Khalilzad, who has been accused of supporting the Taliban, stated that while the Taliban claims women under their rule are safe and protected, the reality proves otherwise.
He stressed the need for the Taliban leadership to reconsider their ban on women’s education in schools and universities.
The former US envoy added that Afghanistan needs educated and skilled women, including doctors.
The Taliban group’s restrictions on women’s education and employment, particularly in the healthcare sector, have caused severe workforce shortages in women’s healthcare services, leaving more innocent girls and women at risk.
