The Taliban administration in Kabul officially reports nearly 1,500 total earthquake casualties, while local sources in affected areas claim 4,570 deaths in Kunar’s Nurgal district alone.

According to a video recorded yesterday evening, one official state that the number of injured reaches nearly 13,000 people.


The affected areas have still not been completely evacuated, and casualty numbers could rise at any moment. This represents only the casualty count from one district in Kunar, which differs several-fold from figures announced by Kabul.

The magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck Sunday night marks the third major earthquake since the Taliban seized power in 2021.

Rescue operations continue to face challenges due to rough terrain and difficult access to remote mountainous villages.
