Australia’s Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to families of earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan and announced $1 million in aid for earthquake relief efforts.

Australia stated that this assistance will be distributed through international partners to reach needy people, not the Taliban group.

The ministry said Thursday, September 4th, that this earthquake occurred while nearly half of Afghanistan’s population faces severe humanitarian needs.

Australia’s aid budget will be used through the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund led by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs to support earthquake victims.

Australia has allocated over $260 million since 2021 to address the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, particularly supporting women and girls.

The country’s Foreign Ministry also emphasized its commitment to supporting the Afghan people through continued humanitarian assistance and international cooperation efforts.
