Mohammad Alam Kohkan, prominent Uzbek poet and writer, passed away last Wednesday in the United States after years of battling a terminal illness

He had dedicated years to promoting the Uzbek language in Afghanistan.


Kohkan published poetry collections “Qarakozlarim” and the story “Terrible Days,” and contributed to compiling an Uzbek dictionary.

He also worked with media outlets including Radio Liberty and Ariana Television in managerial and journalistic roles.


Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, former first vice president, described his death as an “irreparable loss for the Uzbek cultural community.”
