Ashraf Ghani, Afghanistan’s fugitive president, criticized the corrupt legacy of Hamid Karzai’s government in a podcast.
He stated that Zalmay Khalilzad’s plan aimed to bring warlords to power during Karzai’s tenure.
Ghani also complained about widespread corruption in customs and interior ministry during the republic period.
These statements come after he fled the country in August 2021 following Kabul’s fall.
Ghani’s criticisms highlight deep structural challenges in Afghanistan’s administrative system over the past two decades, which negatively impacted the economy and governance throughout the republican era.
