Aryana Sayeed, the renowned Afghan pop singer and women’s rights activist, has penned a scathing open letter to Zalmay Khalilzad In her letter, she accuses the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation of betraying the country and its people, calling him a “poisonous snake” who sold Afghanistan’s future Sayeed argues that Khalilzad handed over Afghan women and girls to those who view them merely as property.

The singer, who primarily performs in Persian but also has songs in Pashto, holds Khalilzad responsible for destroying twenty years of progress and hope. She believes his negotiations with the Taliban abandoned Afghan children, schools, and freedoms while serving political interests rather than protecting the Afghan people.

Born in Kabul and considered the most popular Afghan female artist of her generation, Sayeed has vowed to continue fighting for the girls Khalilzad “left behind” She concluded her letter by stating that history will judge him harshly and that millions of Afghans, including herself, hate and will remember his actions.
