Gul Agha Jalali, a former police officer from the republic era, was killed by unidentified gunmen near his residence in Herat city.
According to eyewitness accounts, the former officer was executed close to Firqa mosque in Herat city.
Jalali had lost one of his eyes during his police service under the republic government.
