UN and European diplomatic sources warn that ISIS could exploit the mass deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan for recruitment purposes.
The former coordinator of the UN committee monitoring militant groups emphasized that the risk of ISIS-Khorasan targeting newly arrived Afghans as potential recruits is high.
A European diplomatic source told France’s news agency that some Afghans join terrorist groups not out of conviction, but due to “economic necessity.
” This situation comes as 500,000 Afghan citizens have been forcibly returned from Iran and Pakistan to their homeland in recent months.
These warnings emerge while ISIS-Khorasan is recognized as the greatest external terrorist threat to Europe and continues spreading its ideology.
The mass deportations create vulnerable populations that extremist groups may attempt to exploit for their recruitment efforts.
