Saif al-Din Mankhan, spokesperson for the Panjshir governor, announced that 7,464 carats of emeralds recently extracted from the province’s mines were sold for $106,100 through a bidding process involving the mining oversight committee, local officials, and merchants.
This sale comes as the Taliban group has repeatedly sold emeralds extracted from Panjshir in recent months. Previously, local Taliban officials reported selling over two thousand carats of emeralds from the province’s mines.
Currently, seven hundred emerald mines in Panjshir province are under Taliban control, with ten percent of sales revenue going to the government treasury.
However, the Taliban group has not yet provided complete information about the exact timing and location of this auction.
