Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic, announced that Tehran no longer has the capacity to serve as the capital due to intensifying water crisis.

Speaking on Thursday, October 2nd in Hormozgan province, he stated that transferring the country’s political center has shifted from being a choice to becoming a necessity.

According to official reports, last year’s rainfall in the country was 140 millimeters while the standard is 260 millimeters.

Water supply costs for Tehran may soon reach 4 euros per cubic meter. The Amir Kabir reservoir around Tehran holds only 6 percent of its usable capacity.
In January, Iran’s government announced a plan to transfer the capital to the coastal Makran region in the country’s south.

This decision emerged amid Tehran’s chronic crises including overpopulation and pressure on water infrastructure, making the transfer an unavoidable necessity.
