The Taliban group has arrested a Chinese businessman named “Peng Jin Wei” who was involved in precious stone trading on corruption charges.
His wife told Zawia News that her husband was arrested innocently and requested his release.
According to the businessman’s wife, he was summoned to Herat in April this year for account settlements and was arrested there.
She denies corruption allegations and smuggling millions of dollars from mines, claiming Afghan partners have taken her husband hostage.
Based on information, many Chinese traders are currently partnering with influential local Taliban in mining businesses and have been granted preferential contracts due to political considerations.
