The Taliban’s Education Department in Herat province has officially banned Teachers’ Day celebrations in all public and private schools through a formal letter. This directive, signed by Habibullah, the general director of Taliban’s Education Department in Herat, has been sent to all schools in the province.

The letter emphasizes that collecting money from students and teachers under any title is prohibited, and school administrators will be held responsible if violations occur. This ban comes as Sunday, October 5th, marks World Teachers’ Day globally.

Since returning to power, the Taliban group has forced tens of thousands of female teachers to stay home and closed girls’ schools above sixth grade. The group has also recently reduced positions for 90 female teachers in literacy schools in Nangarhar province.
