Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service announced that the Taliban has intensified control over Russian and Belarusian agents in Afghanistan. The agency reported, citing documents, that the Taliban believes Russian and Belarusian operatives are working to create tensions between East and West.
According to a letter from Asadullah Bryali, head of one of the Taliban’s intelligence departments, the number of Russian tourists, journalists, and visitors has increased, with a significant portion being intelligence officers. This Taliban official suggested specific measures should be taken to counter Russian and Belarusian agent activities.
Russia is the only country that has officially recognized the Taliban administration, and the Kremlin recently announced that President Putin will visit Tajikistan to discuss Afghanistan. The Taliban group has stated that 24,000 foreign tourists have visited Afghanistan over the past four years.
