Amir Khan Muttaqi, Taliban’s Foreign Minister, met with Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the Moscow Format meeting.
Muttaqi thanked Russia for its decision to recognize the Taliban regime, calling it an important and historic step in bilateral relations.
Lavrov stated that the results of Moscow’s recognition of the Taliban will soon become apparent. He added that this action has created unprecedented opportunities for political, economic, and international cooperation between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the same meeting, Muttaqi also held a 90-minute discussion with Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan.
Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening regional connectivity and agreed to review practical measures to facilitate trade and transit.
