The Washington Post reported that the Taliban cut internet access to control information flow and prevent girls’ online education While officially framed as fighting immorality and corruption, the real goal was depriving thousands of girls from online learning opportunities.

The Taliban group has restricted citizens’ access to fiber optic internet and telecommunications networks in more than ten provinces. These services are currently only active for government offices, banks and exchange houses, but have been cut off for ordinary users.

This action challenges women and girls for whom online education was their only hope and also damages many personal businesses. National connection levels have dropped to 14 percent of normal levels
