Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi invited India to invest in minerals, health, and sports sectors during a press conference in New Delhi.

He discussed optimal use of Chabahar port and navigating imposed sanctions, while requesting the opening of Wagah border as the closest trade route between India and Pakistan.

Muttaqi’s statements came after he faced criticism for excluding women journalists from his previous press conference on October 10th.

He later held an inclusive press conference on October 12th, calling the earlier exclusion a “technical issue.” The Taliban minister also announced that flights between Amritsar and Afghanistan would begin soon.

During his six-day visit to India, Muttaqi met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss bilateral trade, humanitarian assistance, and security cooperation. This marks the first visit by a senior Taliban minister to India since the group seized power in August 2021.
