Filmmaker Kiran Rao expressed gratitude to ex-husband Aamir Khan for supporting her bold decision to cast newcomers in “Laapataa Ladies”. The film won 13 awards at the 70th Filmfare Awards ceremony.
Rao described casting new talent instead of established stars as one of her biggest brave decisions. She stated, “We really felt that we should cast for the role, we should cast to make the film feel authentic, and I had the full support of Aamir Khan in this”.
The film was made with a budget of five crore rupees and earned over twenty-five crore rupees. Kiran Rao believes this naturally dramatic story requires believable characters to immerse audiences in its unusual world.
