Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, responded to recent border clashes between the Taliban group and Pakistani forces by calling on both sides to exercise restraint and protect civilians.

He wrote on X that he is deeply concerned about reports of civilian casualties and displacement resulting from the recent border clashes.

The UN Special Rapporteur also called on the Taliban group and Pakistan to adhere to international law. Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesperson, said that in Wednesday morning’s clash in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, 12 civilians were killed and over 100 others wounded.

The clash began at 4 AM on Wednesday, October 14th at the border gate area in Spin Boldak, Kandahar and continued until around 8 AM.

Mujahid claims the fighting first started with shots from Pakistan’s side and the Taliban group responded to these attacks.
