Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, proposed mediation between the Taliban and Pakistan on Tuesday following escalating border tensions and clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani troops.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad’s convention center, he stated that he had previously played a role in reducing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and could do so again.

The influential Pakistani cleric said they want to resolve all issues between the two neighbors through dialogue and mutual understanding. He emphasized the need for establishing a “verbal ceasefire” to prevent further escalation of tensions.

However, hours after Fazl-ur-Rehman’s statement, Afghan Taliban and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan attacked Pakistani posts in the border areas of Kurram district.
