A Norwegian court sentenced a former US embassy security guard in Oslo to three years and seven months in prison for spying for Russia and Iran.

The 28-year-old man provided classified embassy information to both countries between March and November 2024.

The defendant received 10,000 euros from Russia and 0.17 bitcoin from Iran in exchange for building blueprints, staff information, and family details.

He claimed his actions were motivated by protest against US support for Israel during the Gaza war.

The court emphasized that the disclosed information could have been used for physical attacks against related individuals and damaged US security interests.

Prosecutors had initially requested six years and four months’ imprisonment.
