Fauzia Koofi, former deputy speaker of Afghanistan’s parliament, emphasized that only a legitimate government arising from people’s will can protect the country’s independence.
She stated that the Taliban’s conflict with Pakistan is not the Afghan people’s war, noting the group engages based on ideological interests.
Koofi warned that the Taliban poses a potential threat to the region. She welcomed Pakistan’s recent statement about establishing a democratic system in Afghanistan, expressing happiness that such an approach has emerged in Pakistan, albeit late.
The political figure stressed that national sovereignty is defined by the people, and under Taliban rule, Afghan people have no place.
She added that a proxy group should not overnight be introduced as Afghanistan’s independence defender, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to end violence.
