South Korea’s military reported Wednesday that North Korea appears to have fired several short-range ballistic missiles.
The missile launch occurred one week before world leaders are set to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea.
This marks North Korea’s first missile launch since May of this year.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that these missiles flew approximately 350 kilometers and were fired from an area near North Korea’s capital toward the northeast.
Lee Jae-myung, South Korea’s president, is scheduled to meet with Donald Trump, the US president, in the country next week. Sanae Takaichi, Japan’s new prime minister, said North Korea’s missile launch had no impact on her country’s security and that Tokyo is exchanging real-time information with the United States.
