Donald Trump, the US President, announced he has canceled a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin, Russia’s President, because he didn’t feel right about it.
Trump expressed hope during his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte that new US sanctions against Russia would bring Putin “to his senses”.
The US Treasury Department previously sanctioned major Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, declaring readiness to take further action if necessary.
Washington has demanded Moscow immediately agree to a ceasefire in the war with Ukraine.
Trump also said he hopes the new Russian oil sanctions won’t remain in place for long and will discuss Russian oil purchases with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The US President emphasized that these measures aim to compel Russia to accept peace.
