The US State Department announced that Paul Kapoor has been appointed as the new deputy to Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, for South and Central Asian affairs.

He officially took oath on Wednesday, October 30th, and began his duties.

Kapoor, born in New Delhi with a PhD in Philosophy from University of Chicago, will oversee diplomatic engagements with regional countries including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

During his Senate confirmation hearing, he emphasized strengthening US-India relations and highlighted their shared interests in maintaining a free Indo-Pacific region.
In his previous works, Kapoor noted that Pakistan has used jihadist groups as part of its broader strategy.

However, he has not made specific statements regarding Afghanistan. His appointment comes as the US continues navigating complex regional relationships in South and Central Asia.
