Qari Amjad, deputy leader of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was killed in Pakistani security forces operation in Bajaur area near the Afghanistan border.

He was also known by aliases Mufti Muzahim and Mufti Hazrat Darwaji and was considered the second-ranking figure after Noor Wali Mehsud in the group’s leadership.
Pakistan’s military announced that Qari Amjad was head of TTP’s leadership council and had been present in Afghanistan.

The United States placed him on the international terrorist list in November 2022.

This commander, born in 1979 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, had his residence registered in Afghanistan’s Kunar province in 2022.
Qari Amjad’s killing occurred while Afghan and Pakistani delegations are resuming talks after three days of inconclusive negotiations in Istanbul.

One of the key issues in the negotiations is TTP’s presence in Afghanistan, with Pakistan demanding the group’s expulsion from Afghan soil.
