Taliban’s Ministry for Promotion of Virtue announced that it has collected at least 422 mental patients in Helmand and Ghazni provinces during the past week.
These individuals were handed over to Red Crescent administrations for treatment or custody.
This action was taken following orders from Hibatullah Akhundzada, Taliban group leader, aimed at ensuring society’s mental health.
Taliban inspectors have so far collected 2,100 individuals with mental disorders from across the country.
According to World Health Organization reports, one in five people in Afghanistan suffers from mental disorders.
Doctors emphasize that government medical centers in Afghanistan are unable to provide necessary services to individuals with mental disorders.
