Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, expressed solidarity with Afghan people on Monday following the devastating earthquake in northern Afghanistan.

He called on member countries and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to assist the victims.


According to the organization’s statement, Mr. Taha instructed the OIC office in Afghanistan to work closely with Taliban authorities, relief agencies, and international partners for delivering essential aid.

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghan provinces early Monday morning.


Reports indicate at least 27 people were killed and 730 others injured in the disaster.

The Taliban group has warned that casualty numbers may rise as the situation remains critical in the affected areas.
