Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban group, announced that the two-day negotiations (November 6-7) between Taliban and Pakistan delegations in Istanbul ended without results despite good faith efforts.
He claimed that the Pakistani delegation transferred all security responsibilities to Taliban while accepting no responsibility themselves.
Mujahid emphasized that this irresponsible attitude prevented progress despite mediators’ efforts.
The Taliban spokesman stated that Afghan soil will not be used against any country, but Afghanistan is ready to defend its territory
Khawaja Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, also confirmed that the Istanbul talks ended unsuccessfully and currently, as long as no attack comes from Afghanistan, the ceasefire from Pakistan’s side will remain in place.
Turkish and Qatari mediators have also refrained from setting a new date for negotiations.
