Nooruddin Azizi, Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, announced that the closure of border crossings with Pakistan causes $200 million in monthly losses to Afghanistan’s commercial sector.
He stated that Pakistan consistently attempts to create problems by closing crossings during fruit export season.
Azizi described Pakistan’s route for commercial trade as “a dangerous path” and added that their officials are working with northern neighboring countries to find alternative trade routes.
He told merchants that if Pakistan doesn’t provide “absolute guarantee” for reopening crossings, they have “no obligation” to continue trade relations.
More than a month has passed since five major border crossings with Pakistan were closed.
These crossings shut down following increased tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, causing millions of dollars in losses for merchants on both sides.
