Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, veteran Bollywood star, passed away Monday at age 89. He had been discharged from a Mumbai hospital last week and was reportedly recovering at home.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Dharmendra’s death “the end of an era” in Indian cinema. The actor, who was named one of the world’s most handsome men in the 1970s, began his artistic journey in 1960 with “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere.”
Dharmendra, who had many fans in Afghanistan, also entered politics and served as a parliament member from 2004 to 2009. He married twice and had four children, including actor sons Sunny and Bobby Deol.
