Reporters Without Borders has revealed that, in 2025, Pakistan deported at least 20 Afghan journalists who had fled threats in their home country.

The organization warns that, as deportations increase, dozens more exiled journalists live in constant fear in Pakistan.

RSF has called on Pakistan to halt the deportation of Afghan journalists and urged the international community to create safe resettlement pathways.

The organization stressed that returning journalists to Afghanistan exposes them to Taliban retaliation.

Currently, about 200 Afghan journalists and their families are waiting in Pakistan for third-country visas, but the resettlement process is extremely slow, leaving many at risk of arrest and deportation.
