The European Commission’s advertising account on social media platform X was cancelled days after the EU fined X €120 million for breaching transparency rules under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

X claimed the Commission tried to exploit a loophole in its Ad Composer tool by formatting a link to appear as a video, potentially misleading users and artificially boosting reach.

This move escalates tensions between X and the EU, drawing attention from US officials who criticize the EU’s digital regulations as unfair to American tech companies.

The European Commission has yet to respond in detail to the account termination.
