Abdullah Qarluq, spokesperson for the National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan, announced that three major anti-Taliban political groups have reached an agreement for sustainable peace and a unified response to the current crisis.
According to him, the National Resistance Council, the National Assembly for Salvation, and the National Movement for Peace and Justice will issue a joint statement on Tuesday.
Spokespersons say this is the first time a broad spectrum of former jihadi leaders and technocrats from the previous Afghan government have come together, calling the agreement a “golden opportunity for lasting peace.”
These developments come as some opposition figures recently traveled to Iran, and reports suggest Iran is encouraging reconciliation with the Taliban, though no direct talks have been reported so far.
