Yerkin Tokumov, Kazakhstan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, met with Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani to stress the importance of strengthening border security, combating narcotics, and establishing a railway route via Turkmenistan.
The Taliban’s Interior Ministry stated that Haqqani highlighted Afghanistan’s path toward stability, trade, and development, expecting regional cooperation from Kazakhstan.
This meeting comes amid concerns from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, of which Kazakhstan is a member, about the spread of terrorism threats from Afghanistan into Central Asia.
The CSTO has approved plans to strengthen Tajikistan’s borders with Afghanistan.
Diplomatic talks between Central Asian representatives and the Taliban continue to focus on improving security and regional collaboration.
