Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, emphasized on Human Rights Day, Wednesday, December 10, that the world must not normalize injustices.
He reminded that human rights are enshrined in the UN Charter to prevent the imposition of injustice in countries like Afghanistan.
Bennett stated that human rights are universal and non-negotiable and must always be upheld.
These remarks come as the Taliban have violated fundamental rights of Afghans, especially women and minorities, for over four years.
The Taliban have barred girls from schools and universities and prohibited women’s presence in society. Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10.
