The Taliban Supreme Court has announced the public flogging of a man and a woman in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar province.
Accused of having an illicit relationship, both received 30 lashes in front of local officials and residents the identities of the accused remain undisclosed, the Taliban defends these public punishments as the implementation of Sharia law.
Over the past four years, hundreds have been flogged and at least eleven publicly executed under their rule incident follows a recent public execution in a Khost sports stadium, reportedly attended by thousands of spectators.
International organizations continue to raise alarms over the lack of due process within the Taliban’s judicial system
