A court in France has sentenced anesthetist Frederic Pechier to life imprisonment for intentionally poisoning 30 patients.
The 53-year-old doctor was found guilty of tampering with infusion bags to cause cardiac arrests during surgeries in Besancon.
The tragic incidents resulted in the deaths of 12 people, ranging from a four-year-old child to an elderly patient.
Prosecutors argued that he committed these crimes to discredit his colleagues and satisfy a thirst for power.
Dubbed “Doctor Death” by the presiding judge, Pechier has maintained his innocence throughout the legal process.
He will serve a minimum of 22 years behind bars unless he launches a successful appeal within ten days.
