A special court in Pakistan has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to 17 years in prison regarding a corruption case.

The court, presiding inside Adiala Jail, also imposed a heavy fine on the couple.

The judge stated that failure to pay the fine would result in additional imprisonment for the former leader and his spouse.

Khan’s legal team has denounced the verdict as politically motivated and announced plans to challenge it.

This sentencing adds to the legal troubles of Khan, who is already serving a prison term.

Supporters of his party, PTI, view these legal actions as a fabricated attempt to sideline him from the country’s political landscape ahead of elections.

The case revolves around state gifts the couple received from foreign nations during Khan’s tenure. Despite their denial of all charges, the mounting judicial pressure on the popular politician continues to stir unrest in Pakistan’s political sphere, raising concerns about the fairness of the ongoing legal proceedings.
