Noor Jalal Jalali, the Afghan Minister of Public Health, addressed a WHO summit in India, emphasizing the role of traditional medicine in the country’s healthcare strategy.

Speaking to health ministers from 23 nations, he stated that Afghanistan is committed to aligning its national policies and curriculum for traditional medicine with international standards.

During the event, attended by Indian PM Narendra Modi, Jalali highlighted the potential of traditional practices to expand health coverage.

He called for international cooperation to strengthen Afghanistan’s health system and build public trust through regulated and professionalized traditional medical care.

The participation of a high-level Taliban official in this summit in India marks a significant moment of engagement.

It comes at a time when Afghanistan’s healthcare sector is fragile and heavily dependent on foreign aid and technical support to meet the basic needs of its population.
