The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Salang Pass has reopened to passenger vehicles after being closed for 24 hours due to heavy snowfall.
Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas confirmed that the highway is now accessible, while crews continue working to clear snow for cargo trucks.
Recent snowstorms have blanketed northern and western provinces, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures across the country.
The severe weather had also temporarily blocked major roads in Herat and Badghis provinces, causing significant disruptions for travelers and transport networks.
The Salang Pass is a critical artery connecting Kabul to northern Afghanistan and is prone to harsh winter conditions. Authorities are prioritizing the clearance of the route to ensure the safety of commuters, with maintenance teams remaining on high alert as the cold wave persists.
