Local authorities in Panjshir province have announced a crackdown on “un-Islamic” customs during weddings and funerals.

According to a new directive, vice and virtue officials will work with local elders and clerics to monitor private ceremonies and ensure they align with the Taliban leader’s decrees.

The statement warns that any traditions or excessive spending deemed contrary to Sharia law will be prohibited.

Officials have been instructed to strictly enforce these rules, signaling a zero-tolerance policy for those who fail to comply with the approved guidelines for social gatherings.

This move represents a further tightening of control over private life in the province.

While residents have expressed frustration over the intrusion into their personal and cultural traditions, Taliban officials maintain that full implementation of the virtue laws is mandatory for all citizens.
